This morning, Baby H and I were sitting on the grass of our favorite park, stretching and feeling good after a strong and fast 4-mile run. After doing a quick finger sweep of his mouth for ants and leaf parts, which he now eats, we walked over to the basketball court to watch some guys play. We then toddled over to the playground for a good swinging, after which, we found spider webs in the fence and tried to eat those too. This was all after Baby H clocked me in the face (hard) trying to initiate this game he plays with his Daddy. I think I was still seeing stars on our run :)
The funny thing about being pregnant is that you don't realize how much you are being taught about your child until after he's born. All of the little (and BIG) kicks and punches, or lack thereof; the stages of growth and the little ultrasound profile pictures...it is all 100% how they are going to be long after they are born. Lately, I find this completely amazing. Baby H never stopped moving when he was in my belly with the exception of when I went on long walks outside. He's still the same. He always felt so strong and big, and that is still how he feels, to me.
Where did this year go? Guess it flies by when you're in love and seeing stars.
On that note, I will leave you with one of my favorite lullabies. Some of you may find it a bit of an odd choice for a lullabye, but I have always liked how it reads as though it were this beautiful love letter to a child :)
America The Beautiful
By, Katharine Lee Bates
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassion'd stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness.
America! America!
God mend thine ev'ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law.
O beautiful for heroes prov'd
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country lov'd,
And mercy more than life.
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev'ry gain divine.
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears.
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea.
