Friday Morning Coffee

This weekend I will be surrounded by boys, words, hugs, and bugs.
These are the things I am pondering over Friday morning coffee:
  • As the weekend approaches, I wish all of my East Coast loves a warm and safe retreat. You are in our prayers and may you be content to stay there a while. I wish I could come and scoop you all up and bring you back to the West Side where business casual means flip-flops and jeans, for some mango salsa and margaritas!

  • One of my pieces of fiction currently in the works is a story based on the experiences of my siblings and me. I've had a hard time placing this one. It has some elements of fantasy/horror and history. Kind of Stand By Me + Goonies + Blair Witch Project. It is meant for adults and is told from the point of view of a man looking back on "what really happened". Why do I write better as a man? Why am I not disturbed by this in the least? Even my female protagonists are thought to be men, at first, by many readers (reviewers in my critique group, reviewers in my conference, my parents...).

  • Date night! Tonight is date night #2/2 this month. We are excited because a new fancy pancy hip sushi joint went in within walking distance of our house. Hopefully we are awake enough to make it and our joke about "just taking a nap" won't turn into reality. BAH and I have not slept in about 4 days due to Baby H having an ear infection/getting his sleep schedule confused/getting better and deciding to flip and flop all over in his crib like a fish out of water. Yesterday he woke up at 0345 wanting to play with his new activity table...we were so elated over the fact that he was feeling better that we just shook our heads, made a big pot of coffee, and played with him...Not tonight, little Dude. You are fired! xoxo :)

  • Running (yeay!). My pelvic floor has never been so strong...Bring it. The goal: One hour strong and fast. To be well-hydrated and surrounded by nothing but ocean and sand.
