Sun-Ripened Growth

Baby H is teething and over the past week has gone from being shrieking, squealing, laughing, daytime party-animal to Mr. Crabby Patty. We think he's also going through a major growth spurt now, and gone are the glorious days of him sleeping through the night, which he has done since 11 weeks
One thing that always puts a smile on his sweet little face is being outside, so we've been spending quite a bit of time there. He is a great training buddy. Please note that we don't typically let him drive, regardless of how happy he is in the driver's seat :) I am sure that day will be here before we are ready.
At 22 lbs, he has become a bit heavy for me to carry in the Bjiorn, so we've graduated to a backpack carrier. After yesterday's hour-long sherpa hike along the beach, the most running miles logged in a week in a year and a half, and 2 weeks in a row of blechy sleep, this Momma decided that instead of a workout, we should replant some basil. Baby H decided to lend a helping hand.
Baby H strongly suggested that we plant the mild, sweet variety seeds a few weeks ago, so I heeded his advice.

The nice thing about using this variety if you are a basil fan, is the versatility of being able to use this herb for everything from pesto to strawberry-basil ice cream to tea. It is a very effective calmative and carmative. It grows well in San Diego.
As with all aromatic herbs, Baby H could not resist crushing and smelling the fresh, sun-ripened leaves.
He thought the soil was a little on the dry side, so we added some water...

In the end, Baby H gave the day's events a solid half-smile. He rallied despite swollen, white, bumpy little drooler gums and the 20 minute break we had to take so Mom could look at a bee...I owe this boy a serious run in the jogging stroller tomorrow morning :)
